Brodie West - The Law of the Meander

Brodie West’s The Law of the Meander is the audio equivalent of stream of conscious poetry: flowing without the slightest indication of an end goal, but savouring each tone along the way. Human growls interrupt short phrasings in "Everyday Friday", and the high-register whole notes of "My Cousin Lives in Kyoto" waver with each breath like drifting thought. It's the starkness of the recording that emphasizes West’s intimate knowledge of the alto, and the infinite creativity embedded in these avant-garde ramblings. It’s been a while since Canada has heard free jazz sax this good.
