New Canadiana :: Fog Lake – Virgo Indigo
As Fog Lake, St. John’s local Adam Powell makes music that is forthrightly gentle; a lone signal transmitted from the continent’s far east, packaged with a subdued, lowercase aesthetic and song titles such as “fading away” and “dream gate”. Save for a few instrumental forays, however, Virgo Indigo resonates more folk than ambient, reaching deep within rather than outwards to achieve its transcendence. Each picked string rings clearly through damp attic air as Powell spins short, affecting stories of lost love and solitude, bedroom ballads for the lonely and the wistful. Like reading the diary you never kept by incandescent lamplight, or hearing a forgotten tale brought winsomely back to life. Keep this one close.
