Favorite moment:
– Tonstartssbandht backing Dirty Beaches in Calgary. Total shred + yelp fest.
– Garrett Kruger being carried away while solo’ing.
There were so many highlights and so many amazing moments, each one buoyed by so many wonderful people. With such bountiful bodies of positive Wyrd reformation, we’d like to simply thank you. Thanks to every person who came and had a marvelous time. Thanks to every performer for being on the level and so supportive. And a huge thanks to the volunteers who carried the weight of Wyrd on their shoulder from city-to-city.
We commend and thank all who participated. As the moon fades, so the sun rises again. For all those who missed Wyrd III, we look forward to your vibrations in 2012. Wyrd IV is coming. As is Wyrd MTL in the next month. Help us carry the torch beyond the end of time.
PS – please post your favorite Wyrd III moments in the comments section below. We’ll start with ours.
PPS – if you have any photos, please send them to [email protected]

Favorite moment:
– Tonstartssbandht backing Dirty Beaches in Calgary. Total shred + yelp fest.
– Garrett Kruger being carried away while solo’ing.
Favorite Wyrd moments:
– Long Long Long bursting into “Cuba Gooding Jr” in Vancouver
– Wyrd “sleeper-hit of the festival” Visions
– Watching people groove the fuck out during Dirty Beaches
– The anecdotes of Raymond Biesinger
– sleep-eating & tales of sleep-joking
Wyld Memories (from Edmonton):
– Wyrdgoers sitting crosslegged for hypnosis by Wyrd Visions
– Femminielli’s Euro-daddy boots and smarmy foreign monologues
– the Dirty Beaches & Hobo Frank skronk-noir duet
– Getting a goose-egg from GHK’s mic in Famines mini-mosh
ups and downs but let’s focus on the ups:
-Red Mass killing it every night
-Wyrd Visions finally playing in the silence he deserved in Vancouver because Aaron told everyone to shut the fuck up beforehand. One of those jaw-dropping performances you’ll remember forever.
-The Famines, always
– High Rise II in Calgary
– Femminielli
-Babysitter knocking it out of the park for the 15 people there to see them in Vancouver
-On a selfish note, having the most fun I’ve ever had playing music at the Legion in Calgary
-“Lunch is more fun with meatballs on a bun”
My favourite moments?
Aaron saying, “Not everyone knows who I am” ….
Guest saying, “Wow you’re Aaron’s Mom… you must be a genius, he’s so smart!” ((((beam))))
Chatting with Gobble Gobble ballerina about drum beats
Enjoying Tonstartssbandht even though I can’t pronounce it
Looking forward now to accepting Aaron’s award for him in TO next month ;)
Note to self: More earplugs next year
Personal Highlights were so many, but for starters – surviving Wyrd Fest III.
– Getting to play guitar with Red Mass on the whole tour. Dream come true for me.
– Famines sounding like they were going to end the world in Calgary
– Role Mach, the band with arguably the lowest amount of exposure on the whole tour generating a huge amount of excitement in both Calgary and Edmonton. Redemption.
– Gobble Gobble on home turf in Edmonton
– driving to Vancouver through the night with Alex (Dirty Beaches) and having a great time throughout that trip.
– The “liquor-licence destroying” encore in Vancouver (Red Mass +Tonstartsbandht +Famines +Hobo Cubes +Feminelli +Ketamines) that got shut down after the first note and ended in Garrett from The Famines being carried out of the venue by the crowd while he played a drum solo to chants of “WE WILL NEVER STOP!”
– The doom-sayers who said we couldn’t pull this off in Vancouver because “$20 is too high” and “Music Waste is only $15” and then having it being the highest-paid attendance of all three. Nothing shuts those people down like success. Vancouver – it dawned on me that “NO FUN CITY” is actually the opposite, you guys just need to kick those Debbie Downers to the curb and it turns out to be “FUN AS HELL CITY”
– Jesse Locke. Jarrett Samson. Jesse Northey. Garrett Kruger. Raymond Biesinger. These people were there the whole weekend and were like combined human Ativan and Prozzzak.
– Noah Kamis showing up in Vancouver and jumping on RUNNING A WHOLE STAGE BY HIMSELF WITHOUT BEING ASKED!!!!
– Ketamines (JANE/EVAN/MARTINE/RYAN), who – EVEN THOUGH THEY DIDN’T HAVE TO – stayed until 4-am in Edmonton and Calgary to help strike both PA’s and loading UHauls without complaining once. People who wonder why the Lethbridge music scene is so good, THIS IS WHY!
– Watching Aaron Levin get his second wind right as Marie got to the Waldorf (she flew in to drive with Aaron back to Edmonton) and being there for the tear-inducing reunion. TRU LUV!
– Dirty Beaches / Tonstartsbandht collab in Calgary.
– Long Long Long being so endearing the whole trip. Wish I got to bro-down with those guys more.
– Wyrd Visions “BOG LORD”, the one song I dropped everything to listen to all three nights. Impossibly good.
– Feral Children as a FULL BAND. Tight jamz.

The Highlights from Vancouver:
Role Mach, The Famines, Feral Child (when they finally got going), Long Long Long, Dirty Beaches, Gobble Gobble and his side show, The Ketamines, the gentlemen in the crowd with the trench-coat, basically, the whole damn show was awesome. I am sick that I missed the ending; by all accounts, a memorable moment. See you in 2012.
Too many highlights to list ’em all, but here’s a start:
-Role Mach blowing my mind four nights ago, while also turning out to be some of the nicest people I’ve ever met from Vancouver. Somebody drop an LP for this band already!
-Three different sets from Dirty Beaches, featuring Frank Hobo on sax, the Tonstartss bros ripping, and finally a jaw-dropping solo set in Van
-Energetic Action killing it in Edmonton
-meeting Jenni the amazing intern and The Joe (no intro necessary)
-Wyrd Visions
-pals in each city making my first Wyrd an amazing experience. Biggest ups to Aaron and Paul!
Oops, by “four nights ago”, I meant “four nights in a row.” Lethbridge ruled! Should also mention the Hobo Expanding Cult Band set at the Owl, because that warped my mind in eight different ways. Plus, people were dancing?!
One last one: James Leroy shaking his congas with the Ketamines. Dude is the Bez of garage rock…
Too much to say. All of the above. And thank you for the kind words, too!
XOXOXOXO,
R.
wyrd visions confidence every night – no one stood out more. dirty beaches in vancouver. aaron + marie! paul + ketamines! finally understanding that GBL GBL is the new religion. tonnstartsbandht’s smell
Shucks. Thanks Jesse. I wish I had gotten a better shot of your maximum stokage drumming face!
So many highlights from Vancouver… I am definitely making the whole circuit for Wyrd IV!
highlights:
watching the famines rip it up every night
-riding with paul through the rockies
-writing on notepads like junior high kids with raymond (famines) cuz he lost his voice from shouting every night
-tonstartsbandht!
-femminielli and the hobo expanding cult band!
-Wyrd visions almost made me cry, so good.
-and nothing beats having the opportunity to jam with people who you always wanted to play with. Weird mash ups and band merge jams should be the spirit and staple of WYRD FEST. where you get to see shit that you usually don’t see at regular shows. AAron, start recording the WYRD bootlegs mang! It’ll be a good documentation to our scene here in canada.
No one complained, and everyone worked so hard loading and loading out to make this happen. You guys are amazing.
the only negative shout out i have goes out to:
that fucking parking patrol old turd in calgary. Fuck you. He made the old lady who worked at the legion move her car cuz we were no where to be found. What a turd.
