Because touring Canada isn’t hard enough, Weird Canada is taking Wyrd Fest on the road! No longer will Edmonton’s fringe-music marathon remain in the confines of the Albertan semi-north. On April 30th, 2010 Wyrd Alberta will hit the road with 14 flagship, genre-bending bands travelling to Calgary, Edmonton, and Lethbridge as the WYRD ALBERTA TRAVELING MUSIC FESTIVAL.
ALL THINGS WYRD
Wyrd Fest was a one-evening, two-stage, musical marathon that occurred on November 14, 2009 – proudly housing 16 bands in one evening, with a double-stage dynamic creating a constant stream of fringe-musics from all over Western Canada. As a festival featuring 16 obscure bands, we were pleasantly surprised when tickets sold-out almost immediately. This success points towards Canada’s growing attention to the new-wave of underground music in addition to the curatorial power of Weird Canada (or so I like to think).
Wyrd Alberta is an expansion on the original Wyrd Fest. Convincing bands from Montreal and Halifax to stop in Alberta wasn’t easy, so we’ve paved the way for them and launched a “traveling festival” stopping in Edmonton, Calgary, and Lethbridge. In Edmonton, Wyrd Fest II has become the official after-party for the Royal Bison Craft & Art Fair, while the Calgary and Lethbridge stops solidify partnerships with the Sled Island and Mammoth Cave music festivals. The organization of each evening will mimic the same successful formula from Wyrd Fest: 16 bands across two stages and running from 5pm through Midnight.
The traveling festival lineup is:
Women (Calgary, AB)
COSMETICS (Vancouver, BC)
D’EON (Montreal, QC)
Omon Ra II (Montreal, QC // Halifax, NS)
Nü Sensae (Vancouver, BC)
Shearing Pinx (Vancouver, BC)
MYTHS (Vancouver, BC)
The Famines (Edmonton, AB)
Myelin Sheaths (Lethbridge, AB)
The Wicked Awesomes! (Edmonton, AB)
Fist City (Lethbridge, AB)
Topless Mongos (Calgary, AB)
JAZZ (Edmonton, AB)
Krang (Edmonton, AB)

Weird Canada, The Wicked Awesomes! And Blackbyrd Myoozik Present
WYRD FEST
Edmonton’s Only Fringe-Music Festival
On Saturday November 14th 2009, 18 bands from the fringes of Canada’s musical netherworld will converge in Edmonton for a night of shear audacity. Never before has Edmonton experienced such an onslaught of attractive forces; from the pop sensible Peace, the glitchy electro of GOBBLE GOBBLE, or the adjective-punk of Shearing Pinx, Wyrd Fest is proud to present a real glimpse into Western Canada’s audible underground.
Inspired by the success of Canadian indie music festivals like Calgary’s Sled Island, Montreal’s Pop Montreal, and Halifax’s Obey Convention, Wyrd is a one-night, two-stage marathon of all things fringe.
Wyrd is built around a model of: quality-fringe, everyone-is-welcome, and I-can’t-believe-it’s-so-cheap, which is why the scum stats are: ALL-AGES WELCOME and 1st 50 advanced tickets $10, and $15 thereafter. Never before have you received such bang for your musical buck.
