New Canadiana :: Rhythm of Cruelty – Demo

Rhythm of Cruelty - Demo
Skulking through distilled collages of glassy dreams are two lovers basking in high/low downstroke flanges and the beguiling hypnoses of analog motorik. Re-envisioning the heavier aural tropes of past projects, they tear down an oft-aped distinction to construct unencumbered bricks-and-mortar post-punk. Rhythm of Cruelty is a beautiful trashy-dash of battleship grey upon a black and white world.

New Canadiana :: N.213 // Reflektionss – The Next Best Thing

NMR found a bold pairing between the bristled pulses and maniacal low-end of N.213 and Reflektionss. Their combined dualic forces swerve between harrowing drum-machine hermetics and fist-fulls of gothic concoctions frothing with digital spume. While N.213 jacks your hybrid with scorching no limit dialogues, Reflektionss pipet their basemental minimalism straight through your nervous system. Both foster a millennial convolution of arresting fear and 21st century mellow, so grip fast before their divergent crests wash you into nihilism. [Pressing note: pictured above is the test-pressing gripped from the Isolated Now Waves merch table. The actual release differs significantly.]

Review :: Sex Church – Dead End b/w Let Down

Sex Church - Dead End b/w Let Down Sex Church
Dead End b/w Let Down
(Sweet Rot Records)
Vancouver, BC
::web/sounds::

Canada’s modern-psychedelic scene is re-emerging, painted new colours and worshiping new Gods. Gone are the pretenses of 60s pop-lysergia; in its place we gladly fall before false idols and re-hashed idioms. And why not? When it’s done well, we put our minds on a true trip thru hell. Sex Church easily accomplishes this with their mix of doomy, pedantic guitar drones and gothic romanticism; parsing liturgy and psych in a bewildering and addictive way. The songs are long, depressing and mesmerizing; perfect musical beds for basement-evenings in your teenage vortex. And if that all made sense, they throw in a pop-punk ballad for the last minute of Dead End; nothing is ever too easy anymore. 300 copies pressed on black vinyl via Vancouver’s Sweet Rot records. Die vicariously.
