New Canadiana :: Grand Trine – Euthanize Me // Here Comes the Night b/w Don’t Let The Devil Ride

Following a far too lengthy hiatus, the triumphant return of Grand Trine has been a glorious thing to witness. The world needs these leather jacket daddies (and mommies) and their tender tough love to remind us that rock ‘n’ roll still has teeth. Hitting the strip with a brand new line-up and a batch of neck-twisting noir-guitar tunes, these hellbound banditos ride into the witching hour and leave you coughing on fumes.

Review :: Grand Trine // Black Feelings – Radio Frequency Identification b/w Magic Feeling

Grand Trine // Black Feelings
Radio Frequency Identification b/w Magic Feeling
(Blue Skies Turn Black)
Montreal, QC
::web/sounds:: // ::web/sounds::

From the Black Magic frequencies of Jesse Locke:
Continuing in their 10th birthday brew-ha-ha, Montreal’s busiest promotion company and occasional record label has dropped this doozy of a 7” split. Grand Trine get the A-side with a fuzzy caveman rocker of Stoogian proportions, teeming with ‘tude, revved-up guitars and a middle section washout of snowstorm static (now the song title makes sense). On the flip, Black Feelings submit an underwater-fi take on the song they’ve been playing as a closer the last few times I’ve seen ‘em live, complete with stroboscopic rhythms and chiming guitars that ring out like steel drums. Still, when that triumphant riff kicks in for the first time at the 1:50 mark, life is a NES and you’re Kid Icarus.

Review :: Grand Trine – Sunglasses EP

Grand Trine
Sunglasses
(Divorce Records)
Montreal, QC
::web/sounds::

From the wish-I-had-a-tough-guy-leather-jacket stylings of Aaron Levin:
Monochromatic Youth, the vanguard of Grand Trine’s Bruised Tongue debut, captured their synthetic sans-wave pedigree at the cusp of their existence, posing the question: where now? Defying all expectations, Grand Trine returned with a barrage of brilliant psychedelic biker-punk transplanted from their phantasmagoric Montreal freak-clinic. Some wastoid time-warp seizure has them sounding like Marty McFly opening for the MC5; face-melting genre-collages, bursting celluloid solos, and decimating saxophone freak-outs; all of it wrapped in layers of frayed leather, busted zippers, and skitched sunglasses. Translation: Sunglasses is not for the faint of heart, mind, spirit, or stomach. All orifices will succumb to their unwholesome mutant hard-rock and I suggest you send all litigations directly to Divorce Records c/o Weird Canada legal services (but make sure to grip the 12″ vinyl (limited to 600 copies) as evidence of their crime). Now, if you don’t mind, I have a large mess near my stereo system to attend to.
