Recorded in Calvin Johnson’s Dub Narcotic Studio in Olympia, WA, Canada’s most progressively potent gang of art-damaged grumps have created what could be their masterwork. After years of touring Rollins style and unleashing countless slabs upon the mound, AIDS Wolf have pared it down to the bare wires pulsing and robbing us of the horizon. Chloe Lum’s vocals are louder than ever, yet processed in robotic jabs to the eardrums, playful, violent, while Alex Moskos floats and meanders through a valley of oozing moans, all on top of the unrelenting smash provided by Yannick Desranleau. Every time they get into the studio they take it out to the left field for another round of “how insane am I/how insane is the world”, barefoot and lost. Finding new meanings inside the sullen husks of human interaction, focused on the future and destroying the past relatives we had known. Repetition. Repeater. Realized. Where do we go from here?

Lantern’s burning proto-punk and wah-wah workouts provide a much needed headbang session to strengthen those aging neck tendons. Their cover of this trashcan anthem further proves the cutting-edge theory that silverface fuzz blows away synth-banjo, any day. Meanwhile, The Ether’s destructo-wave ripples into black holes, a dense mass constantly on the verge of implosion. Here and there, a sparse guitar lead escapes the confines, a split-second before the void pulls you back head first into its crushing fury. Must grip!

Lantern, leur proto-punk incendiaire et leur wah-wah périlleux, fournissent un exercice nécessaire pour relâcher le cou de ses tendons tendus. Ils osent reprendre ce hit plastique, prouvant désormais la théorie contemporaine voulant qu’un silverface crachant 100 watts de fuzz a plus de couilles que du synth-banjo, et ce, en tout temps. Le destructo-wave de The Ether oscille comme un trou noir, une masse si dense qu’elle frôle constamment l’implosion. Ici et là, un lick de guitare s’en échappera, une demi-seconde d’apesanteur avant d’être ravalé tête première par leur furie écrasante. Encore, s’il vous plaît!

We’re blowing out the last two episodes of AIDS Wolf‘s venture in tour banality with a double-shotgun blast of inanity. Moskos explores European tour cuisine, a bouncy-castle paradise, and a new age toilet before plotting Drainolith‘s 700th tour. The inane vibes are summarized brilliantly by Episode 8′s exploration of an ant infestation within Chloe’s sugar. It’s a beautiful closure to the wolf’s Europen journey through documentary vérité. Perched high upon our digital chalice we implore those outside the 100-sided die to heed our message: bring us your banality and we shall broadcast it to the world.
